Online Casino News:
Unusual Results for Survey
by Joanne R Sunday September 27, 2009
at 10:12 PM
A scientist with a bias against online
casino gambling has come out with a
survey that seems to go against every
other survey out there today. Dr. Mark
Griffiths has created a new study in
regards to online casino gambling and he
has determined that there is more online
casino gambling addiction than anywhere
else. With most studies showing that
online casino gambling does not cause
addiction, many are wondering about the
impartiality of its authors.
Dr. Griffiths said that he used to
figures from the British Gambling
Prevalence Study to come up with his
findings. He says that problem gambling
is 10 times more prominent among online
casino patrons that among those who only
use land-based casinos. He is using this
theory to try and keep online casino
gambling illegal in the United Kingdom.
However, many gambling professionals are
wondering how he came up with his
statistics. They say that every other
study, up until now has determined that
online casino gambling is not the cause
of addiction. They say that in those
online casino gambling addicts that they
have studied, their interaction actually
started at the land-based casino and
then bled over into the online casino
arena. They were unable to find subjects
who had an addiction to online casino
gambling, who had not started at the
land-based ones first.
With a desire to start a new
organization called StopGam which would
keep online gambling from spreading any
further in the UK, the study’s authors
seemingly have other ulterior motives
for writing it.
