Online Casino News: Minors Gambling
by Joanne R Wednesday September 23, 2009 at 10:48 PM
The online casino business is a very competitive industry. There are plenty of online casinos out there who are hoping to become the next Bodog or the next Party Poker. But with every online casino that makes it, there are hundreds and thousands of other sites that do not. That is why they have to do everything in their power to bring in all of the business that they can, and to hold on to it once they get it.
But some online casinos go a little too far in trying to get their clients. The United Kingdom is currently having a problem with one of their online casinos, Betfair. The online casino has allegedly been targeting minors in their attempts to bring in more business. Obviously it is against the law for minors to participate at the online casinos, but it is also illegal to target them in your marketing efforts.
The online casino has recently released a new ad campaign, which in of itself is not the problem. The problem is that in the campaign they are gearing it towards a younger demographic. The ad has a picture of a young girl, who, although he is actually 20, looks much younger. There is a tagline that goes with the picture that insinuates that she is 15.
The online casino company says that they were not marketing towards minors, and that the woman in the picture is actually the winner of the World Series of Poker Europe. But there have been several complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority, so the ad has now been banned. The online company does not feel that it is fair to ban the ad, as they say that the girl in the ad is of legal gambling age.
