Hollywood may apply a little
pressure to allow Internet
Gambling
It's not a given yet, but
Hollywood may just help fight
the anti gambling sentiment in
politics. The pull can be quite
impressive as seen in the past
when celebrities stand behind a
cause.
Antigua is seeking over $3
billion in damages after a win
in court involving the US and
Online Casino Gambling. To
collect these monetary damages,
they may seek to profit from
certain copyrighted goods such
as software, movies and cd's.
The WTO has approved this move.
The Motion Picture Association
of America was said to have had
talks with the U.S.'s Trade
Department suggesting
negotiations between the U.S.
and Antigua to stop the threat
of bootlegging copyrighted
materials. At this time the
deadline for a decision from the
U.S. is September, 22 2007, but
in all likelihood there will be
an extension given.
If Antigua wins their case, they
could be looking at 100's of
Billions each year. Marke Mendel
is Antigua's attorney in this
case and has requested that the
WTO approve compensation as
outlined. Not wanting to hurt
American companies, but more to
pressure America's official
stand, was his main motive but
he is fully ready to move with
the plan.
