Online Casino News: State
Regulation of Online Casinos
by Joanne R Sunday October 11, 2009 at
10:56 PM What is
interesting about the Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act is that it
leaves the idea of online casino
gambling up to the individual states.
They do not come out and say that the
states cannot allow online casino
gambling, therefore it will be an
individual decision how they handle it
with in their state. Now, they cannot
offer online casino gambling that
crosses state lines, because that would
be illegal; but they can offer it within
their own borders.
Because of this loophole in the law,
many states are now starting to see that
they can lobby their Government to
possibly get online casino gambling
within their state. California and
Nevada both have already expressed an
interest in offering online casino
gambling to their residents. They say
that because it is not illegal according
to the law, they could offer some form
of online casino gambling within their
state.
Now that the individual states to
realize that they can offer it possibly
within their borders, experts say that
the race to be the first to offer online
casino gambling within their state is
the carrot on the end of the stick. In
fact, experts say that legalized online
casino gambling will probably be offered
within each of the states before it is
offered on a national basis. Those
states that don’t want it are going to
have to pass laws within their own
governments that make online casino
gambling illegal.
As California and Florida have already
expanded their land-based casino
options, many feel that they may
actually be among the first to offer it.
California has already made strides to
make online casino gambling legal, so
chances are they may be the first to
actually see it happen.
