Growing Support for Online
Legislation
Barney Frank, Massachusetts
Congressman and founder of IGREA
stated that William Delahunt, a
Representative for
Massachusetts, has agreed to
co-sponsor IGREA. Signing up
last week, Delahunt had already
shown opposition for the UIGEA
and any further restrictions on
online gambling, he voted
against the UIGEA a year ago as
it passed through Congress as it
was attached to the security
bill.
The IGREA (Internet Gambling
Regulation and Enforcement Act)
was first introduced in April
2007, and received initial
support and to date has 37
co-sponsors. Representative
Frank stated that the bill is at
present in the House Energy
Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade
and Consumer Protection and that
there is not any further action
scheduled for it this year. He
went on to say that although
it's not dead, it's not active
and that support is key. Support
is growing but there needs to be
much more.
