Online Casino News:
Party Gaming Gets World Poker
by Joanne R Saturday November 28, 2009 at
11:30 PM
The online casino Party Gaming has made
the big move and purchased the World
Poker Tour brand. This is a big move for
the company and it signals a return for
the online casino as they are probably
looking at this as a way for them to
come back to the online casino market in
the United States. This purchase did not
come cheap for the company – and they
got it for $12.3 million.
By making this purchase many think that
they are on the road to re-entering the
US gambling market. They had pulled out
with the passage of the Unlawful
Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or
UIGEA, but may be preparing for the
UIGEA to be overturned as many think
that it will be. With this purchase, the
company now owns the name, the right to
the events that are held in both the US
and in Europe, more than 150 hours of
televised programming, and more than
16,000 subscribers that are already
paying for poker offerings.
This is a large coup for the company as
they have beaten out many other online
casino and gaming operators for the
rights. There were many other companies
vying for the name, and they were
fortunate enough to come out on top.
This helps them get in contact with the
US again and begins to form a link for
the company with the 12 million US
customers that they had to pull away
from with the UIGEA.
The company says that this deal now
combines two of the biggest names in
online and offline poker – and they are
right. Even a last minute move by
Mandalay Media to block the sale was not
successful, and the sale continued on
through.
