Beshear Hurting Churchill
Downs
For all his talk of protecting
the residents of Kentucky from
online casinos and outside
gambling interests, the governor
of Kentucky has done the
opposite. Governor Steve Beshear,
in an attempt to keep the online
casino industry out of his
state, and keep all of the
gambling dollars to himself, has
ended up cutting profits of
those gambling interests in the
state.
Once the online casino industry
got wind of Beshear’s plan, many
of them got angry and started
fighting. One online casino
group, Online Casino Advisory,
called for a boycott of the
gambling interests and any
related companies within the
state of Kentucky. Sherman
Bradley of the online casino
company said that with the
governor trying to shut down
international businesses, they
needed to do something to show
their displeasure.
Well, it sees to be working as
the stock price of Churchill
Downs opened significantly lower
on Friday, starting the day at a
year long low of $30.04. The
company owns several race
tracks, and they can expect to
see harder times ahead for them
as their governor continues on
with his attempts to hurt the
online casino industry.
There are many online casino
websites out there now calling
for this boycott, and many are
passing it along to non online
casino sites as well. The
attempts to keep the online
casino industry out of the state
are obviously backfiring for the
governor, yet he keeps pressing
on. Much of the pressure for not
imposing the ban on the online
casino sites is coming from
within his own state as
residents clamor to be able to
continue visiting online
casinos.
