May 21, 2009 Online Casino News:
iMEGA Steps into Minnesota Mess
With Minnesota trying to make people
follow an archaic law that says that
wire transfers are illegal and thus
online casino gambling is illegal, they
have gotten the attention of many online
casino proponents. They are now going to
have to deal with the Interactive Media
Entertainment and Gambling Association
as well, for they have decided to get
into the mix that is against the move as
well.
With Minnesota taking on the mantle of
making sure that online casino gambling
remains illegal in their state, there is
no wonder that there are a number of pro
online casino groups looking to stop
them. They are invoking a law that
experts say does not even apply to the
situation, and have already contacted
the Internet Service Providers to block
the online casino sites and the phone
companies asking them to block the phone
calls.
iMEGA has now filed to sue John Willems,
Director of the Alcohol and Gambling
Enforcement Division of the Minnesota
Department of Safety. They maintain that
the actions of attempting to block the
online casinos are in violation of the
First Amendment and they are looking to
remove the actions that the state has
already started putting in place to
block the sites. As of now, neither the
phone companies nor the ISPs have
started complying with their wishes.
It is generally believed that their
attempts will be thwarted and that
Minnesota will realize the error of
their ways. Experts say that the state
has truly bitten off more than they can
chew, and should have learned something
from the online casino debacle that the
state of Kentucky just went through.
