May 26, 2009 Online Casino News:
Harrah’s Makes it Official
Harrah’s has officially entered the
online casino market, much to the
chagrin of those that are already
involved in it. Harrah’s Entertainment
announced that they have created a new
online casino gambling division and that
it will be run by Mitch Garber, who is
the former head of PartyGaming.
The company had hired Garber last month,
solidifying for those that were
wondering that Harrah’s was indeed
entering the online casino gambling
market. Garber will be setting up the
company to run their online casino as
well as internet play for the World
Series of Poker and their expansion into
the online casino market in Europe.
With Harrah’s probably being the world’s
largest gaming company, it only makes
sense that they would be pro active in
gearing up for the legalization of the
online casino gambling market. With this
move they are setting themselves up for
both an international expansion and an
“interactive expansion.” Their online
casino is bound to be successful, if for
no other reason than the name behind the
brand.
Many land based casinos have been very
much against the legalization of online
casino gambling as they know that it
will take money out of their pockets.
However, Harrah’s was one of them and
has now changed their stance. It would
seem that they have realized that online
casinos are going to be made legal and
they might as well jump in while they
can. If they manage to set themselves up
for success now, when the online casino
gambling industry takes off they will be
ready to step in and take a large
portion of those gamblers. If they wait,
like many other casinos are, they will
put themselves behind the curve, which
is something they are not really known
for.
