May 26, 2009 Online Casino News:
Grey Doesn’t Have Facts Straight
It would seem that Tom Grey of Stop
Predatory Gambling does not have his
facts quite straight. Grey says that
Rep. Barney Frank’s new bill to legalize
online casino gambling makes it easy for
people to become addicted and that if it
is legalized the number of people
addicted to online casino gambling will
increase.
However, all of the recent reports show
that this is not actually the case. In
fact, when allowed to participate in
online casino gambling legally, many
don’t continue to participate. They say
that this is because many of those that
were participating were only doing so
because they were told that they could
not anymore.
But they also show that as the economy
has worsened, fewer people are playing
at the online casinos. This shows that
gamblers have realistic expectations and
are not expecting to win. Had they
thought that they could win, in a bad
economy, those numbers would have gone
up not down.
Experts say that many anti online casino
gambling groups say that legalizing the
industry will cause more addiction
because they think that it will keep
people on their side, and keep them from
gambling. However, this is not the case,
and they urge these groups to stop
spreading information that has already
been proved wrong.
They say that when the people find out
that they have been deliberately misled
by the anti online casino groups, they
will have less faith in them and not
listen to them the next time that they
have a real concern.
