May 21, 2009 Online Casino News:
Dutch Still Fighting Against Online
Casino Industry
It is good to see that the United States
is starting to seriously look at
legalizing the online casino industry.
There has been a lot of talk over the
past few months since President Obama
came into office that the online casino
industry might see legislation that
would make the industry legal again –
and as a country we would see the fruits
of a newly regulated and taxed gambling
industry.
But not every country is embracing their
online casino industry. Even though we
are finally working to make it a better
environment for online casino gamblers –
there are many countries out there that
are looking to either make it illegal or
keep it illegal – which is disturbing to
the European Union. They want to see
everyone follow the same rules and
regulations and they don’t like it when
people stray from that.
The Dutch government is one that has
gotten themselves on the bad side of the
law. The EU wants the Dutch to allow
online casino gambling across country
lines, and allow their residents to
gamble at foreign casinos. However, they
are trying to hold onto their monopoly
as they say that they are protecting
their citizens. The EU says that they
are simply trying to protect their
pocketbook and therefore that is why
they are not complying.
The Dutch don’t care though, and have
recently made another move towards
keeping the online casino industry
illegal. They recently attempted to get
all of their banks and financial
institutions to stop processing online
casino transactions from online casinos
and online gambling sites. However,
unless they have not noticed, the US
passed a little law called the UIGEA
that attempted to do the same thing and
it didn’t work for them either.
