Medford Trial Wraps up Second
Week
The video poker trial of former
Buncombe County Sheriff Bobby
Medford continues next week, but
this week saw its fair share of
the video poker owners and
operators testifying. The
prosecution laid out the
confessors to the video poker
scheme one after another,
further solidifying their case
against Medford.
On Monday, a salesman for the
video poker company Henderson
Amusement testified that he had
given Medford envelopes filled
with cash for video poker
bribes. He said that he and
Medford never discussed the
money in the envelopes, they
would talk about other stuff and
then he would hand him the money
and leave. He went into details
about the bribes that he handed
over and the favors that the
sheriff’s office did for him as
well.
On Tuesday, Alvin Ledford,
convenience store and video
poker operator testified about
the bribes they paid Medford as
well to keep their
video poker
business running. Imran Alam
also paid Medford for the
privilege of keeping video poker
machines at his gas stations and
convenience stores. Then Hot Dog
King owner Demetre Theodossis
admitted to paying video poker
bribes to Medford as well.
The confessions went on from
there, with every day another
host of witnesses for the
prosecution stepping forward to
discuss the bribes that they had
given Medford to keep their
businesses or their bosses
businesses running. The case
continues against Medford next
week with what we can only
assume is more witnesses for the
prosecution.
