March 12, 2009 Online Casino News: PartyGaming Close to Deal with US

The United States and PartyGaming are close to coming to a deal regarding their negotiations over the online casino. Many thought that it would not be good for the online casino company when one of their founders – Anurag Dikshit – plead guilty to online casino gambling even before he was charged with it.

However, the online casino said that they did not think that the deal that Dikshit made with the US would have any effect on their negotiations, and thus far it seems as though they may have been correct. The deal is seemingly coming to a close and Jim Ryan, the new CEO of the online casino company said that they were making “good progress” in their attempts to reach a settlement.

Ryan went on to say that he did not see any criminal pleas forthcoming for the online casino, and that they do not foresee having to pay anywhere close to the deal that Dikshit made with them. Dikshit agreed to pay the government $300 million for his part in the online casino gambling. They instead believe that it will be closer to $150 million.

The government went after the online casino because they were offering online gambling to US residents. Once the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or UIGEA, was passed, all online casinos were to pull out of the US market. However, as many do not feel that poker should be considered gambling, the online casino was not one of those that initially pulled out.
