March 30, 2009 Online Casino News: Who Has Your Info?

For many online casino players, they worry about security, but they assume that their casino has taken care of protecting their information. They assume that once they are done with an online casino that they cancel their account and their information is destroyed – and that no one has access to it except those that they have explicitly given permission to. However, as it turns out, they have been assuming incorrectly.

The European Parliament has started formal discussions in regards to online information – who has access, and who doesn’t – and who shouldn’t but does. There are many instances across the board that there are people out there that spend their days trying to hack into the online casino systems to get credit card and personal information about players – and are able to do so because there is no real regulation in place. The EP says that they want to see “more stringent and efficient means of user data protection” and many say that it can’t come soon enough.

There are numerous cases out there where players had their information lifted off of the online casino’s books, and they didn’t even know it until it was too late. The online casino industry then informs the patrons of the occurrence, but there needs to be a way to stop it from happening in the first place.

In the United States the online casino industry spent years trying to fight the government’s attempts at regulating the industry, but now they are asking them to do so, as are their patrons. For their part, online casino users can take some matters into their own hands. If they chose to protect themselves, they can ask the online casino to delete their account when they stop playing, and have them clear out all of your personal information. You should also ask any payment agencies that they are using to do the same thing.
