March 14, 2009 Online Casino News:
Holder Recusing Himself?
The big decision for Eric Holder right
now is whether or not he will recuse
himself from any debates having to do
with online casino gambling. Many think
that he should because they feel that he
has a bias against it, especially
considering his background. Not only
that, but after recusing himself in the
case against Roger Clemens, online
casino players feel that there is an
even stronger case for him to.
Holder is the new Attorney General that
President Obama appointed, but before
coming to work for him he worked for the
law firm of Covington and Burling. In
the case of Roger Clemens he felt that
he needed to recuse himself because he
worked for the firm and they represent
Clemens in the case.
However, Covington and Burling also
represent the NBA and the NFL, both of
whom are dead set against online casino
gambling becoming legal again. This bias
should make it a natural step for the AG
to recuse himself from the online casino
case as well. He also recused himself
from the UBS probe for he worked as a
lawyer for the bank – so it seems that
he is aware that there are cases where
he might not be fully unbiased against
one of the parties.
Holder also told Senator Jon Kyl that he
would work hard to keep fighting against
the online casinos, so it can be
expected that the bias is already there.
Holder has recused himself in the other
cases so it is expected that he should
this time as well.
