New Information is Slanted
The latest information coming out of the
tragedy involving a shooting at the
Holocaust Museum seems to have a slant
to it. Being reported as news, there are
several news sources that are reporting
that the shooter had ties to the online
casino industry, implying in many cases
that the link has more to do with the
shooting than being merely a
coincidence.
It was reported that James W. von Brunn,
who is an 88 year old US military
veteran and white supremacist was
arrested in conjunction with the
shootings. They also reported that he
was involved in the online casino
gambling business. Responsible for the
death of Steven Johns, a security guard
there, and injuring two others, von
Brunn hails from Annapolis, Maryland.
But the thing that they have really
grabbed onto is the fact that he ran a
website that had racist and anti-Semitic
ravings, but also had ads for an online
casino called Casino Tropez. The
interesting thing about the reports is
not that he had the website, but that
there was a link to online casino
gambling because of the ad on the site.
The online casino is one of a million
out there that if you want to put an ad
for their online casino on your site,
they are going to let you. They can
always use the publicity, and they don’t
normally check every site out to make
sure that there isn’t a crazy person
running it. Instead, they farm out their
ads, which many times come from various
affiliates, not even the site itself.
However, the media grabbed the idea that
he was involved in online casino
gambling instead, and tried to make a
link between that and the development of
dangerous behavior. There was no link
that said well, he is ex military so
they must have taught him to be
anti-Semitic and dangerous. Instead,
they focused on the one idea and make it
into something that clearly had no real
link.
