June 9, 2009 Online Casino News:
iMEGA Files a Suit Against Minnesota
The Interactive Media Entertainment and
Gaming Association, otherwise known as
iMEGA has filed suit against Minnesota
on behalf of the online casinos out
there that are trying to stay legal in
the state. They say that the state does
not have the right to limit what their
residents do, and that the online casino
industry should not be made illegal.
The suit is against the Minnesota
Department of Public Safety’s Alcohol
and Gambling Enforcement Division and
lists the head of that agency, John
Willems. They say that by ordering
Internet Service Providers to block the
online casino industry they are not
serving their residents. They say that
they are attempting to block more than
200 online casino names and they are
dedicated to putting a stop to it.
The suit was filed in US District Court,
and they want Willems to rescind his
order to block the online casino sites.
They say that it is not his place to ask
for it, nor is it the service providers’
job to comply. They say that he is
citing statutes that are not relevant to
the task at hand, nor is it legal to ask
them to comply.
They are also concerned because they say
that by blocking the various online
casino sites they are violating the free
speech rights that are provided under
the US Constitution. They report that
they are bound and determined to keep
them from succeeding and they will fight
to the end.
