Legalization May be the Only Way to Save Us

It appears that the University of Western Ontario thinks that if you legalize online gambling casinos you will save the world from itself. It’s true – she thinks that by legalizing and regulating online casinos and gambling you will actually save those from themselves that cannot be responsible enough to monitor themselves when playing.

June Cotte is an Associate Professor of marketing and a George and Mary Turnbull Fellow at the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business. Cotte and her partner Kathryn Latour from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas have come up with a study that shows how important legalization of online casinos actually is.

They have found that by regulating and legalizing online casinos and gambling you can actually reduce the potential harm that it could cause residents. They found that online casino gamblers gambled more frequently and more aggressively than land based ones did.

Between the availability of online gambling and the lack of social interaction that it allows – the risk for addiction is much higher than it is for land based gamblers. They say that to combat this you have to regulate it and scrutinize it carefully. By keeping track of who is gambling and how much they are gambling you can find out who is developing a problem and who already has one.
