Online Casino News: Regulation for Online Casino Gambling
by Joanne R Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at

Estonia has made some serious strides in
the online casino community, and has
really made it so that they were pretty
much self governed. The online casino
gambling sites were not allowed to be
hosted on Estonian servers as that was
against the law, but they were being
used by those that wanted to participate
at the online casinos. But now Estonia
is rethinking their plan for not being
as big a part of the online casino
industry as they have been.
The country is regulating their online
casino industry and not everyone is
thrilled about it. The country says that
it is a natural progression and that the
country should be making money off of
what has become a very large industry.
The new Gambling Act that has been
passed and went into effect on January
1st says that all online casinos must be
hosted on Estonian servers.
Not only that, but they must receive an
“activity permit” and they have to pay
5% sales tax to the country that
excludes player winnings. They say that
it should not come as a shock that the
online casinos would be getting taxed as
this is nothing new in Europe. They say
that most of the countries are taxing
their online casino industry if they
have one.
Even still, they report that their tax
rate is still one of the lowest in all
of Europe, which will still make Estonia
a popular place for the online casino
community. They say that some places are
3% but they “don’t want to have a
reputation as a tax paradise” so they
thought setting the bar higher was a
good idea.
