Online Casino News: Carruthers Gets More Jail Time
by Joanne R Thursday, January 14, 2010  at 9:09 PM

It is crazy to think that in this day and age we are sending people to jail for online casino gambling. It literally blows the mind that someone could go to jail for running an online casino site. There are people walking around literally killing people and our government is spending our tax payer money making sure that the dangerous criminals that run online casinos stay in jail.

David Carruthers is the perfect example of what has gone wrong in this country. Carruthers was just sentenced to three years in jail for allowing online casino gambling, and for breaking the law that makes it illegal. They said that he was illegally accepting sports bets at his online casino, and US District Court Judge Carol Jackson told him he would be serving three years. Jackson said that they felt that Carruthers knew the whole time that what he was doing was illegal.

Carruthers has already spent 32 days in jail and was on house arrest for three years and five months. This means that for operating his online casino he is getting almost seven years in prison. Witnesses to the hearing said that it was outrageous that he had gotten further time especially on a plea bargain. They complained that there were child molesters who got less time than that and that they felt that it was excessive. Experts say that they are trying to make an example of him which is why they have been so tough on his sentencing.

Carruthers pled guilty to racketeering conspiracy charges and all other charges were dropped because of the plea. His partner Gary Kaplan also pled guilty and is serving a 51 month prison term as well as forfeiting $43 million to the US.
