Cruise Ships Suffering from Online
Casino Influence
When one thinks about cruise ships, you
think fun – travel – adventure –
relaxation, and for many the biggest
thing of all – gambling. There are many
who go on a cruise simply so that they
can gamble because they can’t do it
anywhere else in their state. The cruise
lines know this and usually make
gambling a large thrust of their
marketing when showing off their ships.
There are even cruise ships that are
gambling ships – and all they do is go
out far enough off of the coast so that
people can take a day trip out there to
spend their time gambling.
However, the online casinos are wrecking
all of that for them. The online casino
industry is able to give them what they
need without the expense of a boat ride
and many are choosing that option
instead. It saves them money on the
boat, the travel to the boat, and gives
them more money to play with at the
online casino.
Many states are aware of the decline in
revenue from the influx of the online
casino industry, and they are bound and
determined to do something about it.
They know that they have to find a way
to keep those ships bringing in clients
because they profit from them as well.
Some states, like Cape Canaveral in
Florida are talking about allowing ship
casinos to remain open while in port as
this will encourage those on board to
play more.
This does not solve the problem of
getting them on board in the first place
though. With gambling on the ships
normally a multi-billion dollar
industry, there is much to be lost if
they don’t find a way. When asked, some
consumers said that they would spend
more money in the casinos if the cruises
were less money, but other than that
they just can’t compete with the online
casino in their living room.
