Academy Awards Betting
As soon as the Academy Awards were
announced this week there was a flurry
of activity in the online casino
industry. Every year as soon as the
nominees are announced, the online
casinos go into overdrive and start
posting odds on the way that the awards
show will play out. For many of them
they create the online casino page of
who they think is going to win based on
Oscar buzz and then adjust it
accordingly when the actual awards are
announced.
However, this year, the online casinos
were thrown for a loop as there were
many upsets for movies that seemed like
a sure thing. For instance, the online
casinos were sure that it was a given
that Heath Ledger would be nominated for
Best Supporting Actor and that “The Dark
Knight” would be nominated for Best
Picture and Best Director. This however,
did not happen. Ledger got his
nomination, but neither the movie nor
the director got theirs.
The problem with this year is that many
of the categories ended up with such
strange bedfellows that there are no
clear cut favorites to win, and in some
there is almost no competition at all.
This makes it tough for the online
casinos to know who the odds on
favorites will be, making it difficult
to pick a winner ahead of time.
Some though seem like slam dunks. Almost
all of the online casinos pick Ledger as
the winner in his nominated category,
and they are giving him six cents on the
dollar to win. |
