Online Casino News:  French Court Wants Online Casinos Banned
by Joanne R Monday, February 15, 2010  at 10:32 PM

The French have been working on a law that would be very specific about what they will allow in terms of online casino gambling and what they won’t allow. The country has been coming to this agreement for a long time and any online casino that violates it at this time would be incredibly stupid to do so – not when they are so close to getting their feet in the door. However, the French are already aware that there are online casino gambling companies that are offering their services to their residents and they are really upset and are doing something about it.

They have taken their case to the Criminal Court in Paris and they are asking them to allow them to sue 14 online casino operators for violating French law. The French gaming companies, Barriere, Joagroupe, and Tranchant, say that these online casinos allowed French residents to access their online casino sites – thus violating the law. They want them to be blocked from being allowed to obtain an online casino license for at least two years.

There are big name online casinos listed in the ban – places like bwin, Unibet, and Sportingbet. If they were banned for two years it could significantly decrease their profits, but it would also hurt them in terms of market shares. But the French online casino gambling companies say that they broke the law and that they were “actionable under French law” for offering their services while the online casino gambling market was still closed.

Many say that if they are allowed to ban them that this is what will be seen in the United States when their market opens. They say that there is a good chance that those that have been offering their services to the US’s residents will see themselves banned as well.
