Online Casino News:
French Update Their Online
Casino Law
by Joanne R Thursday, February 11, 2010 at

The French government might be figuring
out the right way to make their online
casino laws work. There was a lot of
turmoil when they passed their latest
laws regarding online casino gambling in
that they said that if an online casino
wanted to offer their services in their
country they had to shut down their
existing lists of French player accounts
before they could get a French online
casino gambling license.
The online casino community was upset as
they said that this would hurt those
companies that were applying for their
licenses as there are already French
gambling firms that have been
authorized. However, the French quickly
saw what the issue was and they have
rejected that portion of the online
casino law. They are in the final stages
of examining the draft law and they said
that there would be things within it
that would be removed and some that
would need to be changed in order for it
to work properly.
Lawmakers are trying to get the online
casino law done before the World Cup
betting activity starts as they know
that this will be a huge money maker for
everyone involved. They know that they
have until mid year as that is when they
start in South Africa.
They said that the issue with the online
casino law is not the closing of the
French accounts – they say that their
online casinos will still be able to
offer their services to those players
while the licenses are being handed out
and the law is being passed in France.
But they were very clear that if they
are approved for a license that they
will have to transfer all of their
players over to their new online casino
site – which must have the .fr
extension.
