Online Casino News:  Canada Making Some Changes to Online Casino Laws
by Joanne R Tuesday, February 23, 2010  at 8:57 PM

With the announcement that Loto Quebec was taking their show on the online casino circuit, there were many that were happy to see that the country was finally moving forward in their assessment and allowance of online casino gambling. The country has obviously figured out what many others have already seen, and that is that the online casino industry is a great way to bring in millions of dollars, if not billions of dollars, for your country.

Canadians have long been on the fence when it comes to online casino gambling. They put their very first gambling laws into play in the late 1800’s and have struggled since then to figure out what was a good balance for their residents. At first they didn’t allow any gambling at all, and then as the years have gone on they have permitted one type after another to be legalized in their country. The country doesn’t currently have any restrictions on land based gambling, but the online casino industry is a little trickier.

The country is not yet ready to allow online casino gambling to be legal and they have many restrictions in place when it comes to the industry. Because so many other countries have already legalized it though, they are wondering how they might change the way that they do business and Loto Quebec is definitely one of those toes dipping into the water to see what it is all about.

The problem that Canada is seeing is one very similar to that in the United States. It might be illegal to play at an online casino, but residents are still doing it. This means that the country cannot benefit from it, and neither can local operators. But foreign online casino companies that offer their services to their citizens can. They are starting to see that they have to make some decisions regarding the online casino industry, and they have to make them soon.
