February 4, 2009 Online Casino News: Online Casino Industry Thriving

When the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or UIGEA, was passed many in government breathed a sigh of relief. They thought that by making online casino gambling illegal that they had just saved themselves a lot of hassle for people would comply and they would be done with it. They thought that they had pulled a fast one on the online casino gambling industry, and they sat back proud of themselves for their cunning.

However, that is not exactly what happened, and according to several reports, online casino gambling is actually thriving – more so than it was when the UIGEA was passed. Not only did it not end online casino gambling, it seems to have kick started it. Experts say that there were many who didn’t really think about online casino gambling so they did not participate in it all that much. However, with the passage of the UIGEA they felt that their rights were being taken away and embraced it instead.

Not only that, but many within the online casino gambling community were quick to point out that it was not illegal to play at the online casinos – that the Act did not make online gambling illegal. Instead, it made the processing of payments to and from online casinos illegal, which some may say is the same thing, but it isn’t.

Those who visited the online casinos simply found financial institutions offshore that were willing to process their transactions instead. They found ways around the banking laws, and started visiting their online casinos with much more regularity than before. This was the very thing that government officials did not count on – that people would do it anyway.
