February 24, 2009 Online Casino News:
Corruption Talks
Many in the European Union are worried
about corruption in online casinos and
they have started having talks in
reference to how they might combat it.
Early reports from these talks say that
the MEPs voted in favor of a motion
before the Internal Market Committee in
reference to rules governing the online
casino industry.
They have voted that online casino
gambling should not be regulated by the
EU, for they think that each of the
member states should be responsible for
regulating their own online casino
industry. If this is voted on and
approved this would completely change
the power and structure of the EU. Each
of the member nations that currently
report to the EU for their online casino
needs and other regulations would now
have the ability to set their own rules.
However, with these rules they would
also be able be exclude the other member
states from participating in online
casino gambling within their borders.
This would essentially remove their
power and ability to enforce the rules
that make the other nations allow them
to participate over their borders.
Not everyone wants to see this happen
for they know that they would lose out
on significant revenue if they approve
it. They are fighting against it because
it would only benefit those that had a
large number of people in their country
and would not be hurt by shutting out
the other countries. The commission
knows that if it passes they would no
longer have control over ensuring that
the individual nations allow free
movement of goods and services.
