February 25, 2009 Online Casino News:
Big Online Gambling Bust
China is cracking down on illegal online
gambling. They are spending the
necessary time to ensure that they have
gotten an iron clad case together
against those suspicious of running
online casinos, and they wait it out
until they are sure – then they go in
and arrest those responsible for running
the illegal sites. They do not want
online casino gambling in their country,
and they are bound and determined to do
what it takes to keep it that way.
Their latest online casino bust ended
with twenty people in jail. Authorities
busted up what initially appeared to be
the biggest online casino gambling heist
in China. Those arrested were sentenced
by a Shanghai court for running an
illegal online casino that was a sports
betting site.
The online casino site was owned by Qian
Baochun, and he got six years in jail as
well as various fines for creating and
operating the site. His accomplices, all
nineteen of them, also received jail
sentences for helping run the illegal
online casino, but their terms are
shorter. Authorities say that the online
casino site was created in time for the
2006 World Cup and has been running ever
since.
Not only was the online casino illegal,
but it was bringing in tons of money for
its owner. Authorities say that the site
has easily brought in more than one
billion in bets ever since it started.
Mainland China does not allow online
casino gambling at all, but it does
allow it in Macau.
