February 24, 2009 Online Casino News:
Japan and Online Casinos
There has been speculation that Japan
may be considering legalizing online
casinos, and many who hadn’t really
thought about it before are wondering
why it hasn’t happened before and why
now? Some say that there has been
pressure from residents asking for the
ability to play at the online casinos,
and some say it is because of the
revenue that places like Macau are now
bringing in that they are considering
adding to their own revenue source.
Japan has a population of 128 million
and the highest gross product in Asia,
so they really are the perfect place to
have gambling. But currently the only
forms of gambling allowed in the country
are horse racing and lotteries. They
don’t allow online casinos or even land
based ones to exist, even at the places
where the horse racing or lottery takes
place.
But now the Liberal Democratic Party has
begun talks to see if adding online
casinos to those things that they offer
their residents might be the way that
they want to go. They have started
talking with some of the world’s top
online casino operators to see what
could be gained from allowing it to
exist within their borders.
If Japan does move forward and allow
online casinos to come in, the amount of
revenue that they are sure to gain from
it would be tremendous. With an already
wealthy population it is a given that
they would be both popular and
prosperous.
