Online Casino News: Silver Dollar Sold for $10.6 Million
by Joanne R Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 4:15 PM
The ever popular Silver Dollar casino has been sold for $10.6 million. This spot is practically an icon in the city of Calgary – and at one point was the place to go and be seen more so than anywhere else. But now it has been sold to a Colorado based company – Century Casinos, Inc.
The casino will be taken over by the company, and their Austrian subsidiary will actually be running it under their umbrella. They will take over the casino as well as all of the parent company’s common stock. The casino company already runs and owns Edmonton’s Century Casino and Hotel, and has several locations in Colorado. They say that they are looking to expanding their holdings into Alberta and this is the best way for them to get their first foot in the door.
They believe that it is a good market for them, and that their company will do well there. They purchased the casino at a great price considering it was sold to the Evergreen Gaming Corp. for $22 million just two years ago. However, due to financial concerns and a collapsing economy, the casino is not worth nearly what it was before.
Some people have asked when the iconic casino will become an online casino. There are rumors that they might run the one in Calgary but also start one as an online casino that would mirror its land based counterpart. No one knows if this is fact or merely speculation, but if it did become an online casino it would definitely have a following.
