Online Casino News:
Online Casino Industry Leaving
UK
by Joanne R Thursday August 13, 2009 at

There are a lot of online casinos that
are leaving the United Kingdom for
Gibraltar right now – they say that the
taxes that they are paying are extreme
compared to what they could be paying in
other countries and so they are leaving.
It started off with William Hill and now
the online casino Ladbrokes is leaving
as well.
When faced with a significant difference
in what the online casinos have to pay
it is no wonder. The UK charges them 10%
to be licensed in their country, while
Gibraltar is only 1.5% and thereabouts.
However, some think that there may be
more behind the move than just the tax
situation. There are those that think
that they are simply gearing up to move
into the United States once the US opens
their gates to the online casino
industry.
Some experts think that by changing to
another market they are jockeying for
stronger positions within the US. They
say that with the complaints that many
of these companies have made to the UK
Gambling Commission about their
treatment as related to those that are
already operating online the UK should
have probably stepped up before now to
try and keep these online casino
companies happy so that they would stay.
But now it seems that it is too late.
The online casinos are making their move
and they say that they will be gone by
year’s end. They know that whether they
are in the US or Gibraltar either way
they will be making more money than they
are now.
