Online Casino News: More Online Casino Legislation
by Joanne R Monday August 10, 2009 at 9:54 PM

Interestingly enough, it wasn’t that long ago that you throw a shoe in a room full of politicians and not hit anyone who was interested in supporting a bill that would make online casino gambling legal. For a long time it was Rep. Barney Frank going it alone in an attempt to get legislation approved that would make it legal again. Yet, here were are a few short months later and it seems that the closer it comes to being legalized the more people that are jumping on board the online casino bandwagon.

The latest is Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey who has started his own bill to make online casino gambling legal again. His focus is on those online casinos that offer poker however, and is really putting his efforts into that arena. His bill would make it legal for players to go to the online casinos and play poker, whereas Frank’s bill makes all online casino gambling legal again except for sports betting.

The new bill would take the aspect of online casinos that offers poker and make that part legal and regulated. There would be a ten percent tax collected whenever a player makes a deposit into an online casino account. That tax would be divided between state and federal governments and would be paid instantaneously.

Some say that this is Menendez’s way of working from the Senate side while Frank works the House of Representative side – with both really just trying to get online casino gambling legalized again. Either way financial institutions are bound to support the online casino legislations as they are tired of bearing the brunt of keeping it illegal.
