April 30, 2009 Online Casino News:
Ladbrokes and Their Ads
The online casino Ladbrokes has long
been fairly clear about the fact that
they have a problem with anyone telling
them what to do. When they find
something that they have a problem with,
they are normally the first one to start
hollering, and their latest problem with
the UK Advertising Standards Authority
comes as no surprise to anyone who knows
the group.
The online casino has been running a
series of ads that were deemed to
dangerous and inappropriate for
television and were told to pull the
ads. They were not permitted to run them
because the ASA said that they promoted
risk taking and reckless behavior. The
online casino maintains that they should
not have been banned because they were
meant to be funny, and people should
basically get a sense of humor.
It seems that the ASA only had one
complaint, so the online casino says
that everyone else got the joke and if
one person didn’t – too bad – they
shouldn’t have their ads banned because
of one person. The new ads however, are
simply tame by comparison. The new ad
that was just released is called Hide
and Seek.
The ad is about a giant Sifaka Lemur
playing Hide and Seek with a seeker. It
shows the lemur counting to 100 and then
dancing through city streets looking for
the hider. The ad is entertaining, and
should not offend anyone – even though
it still goes for the same sort of
campaign. They want it to get across
that people don’t need to take
unnecessary risks in order to have a
good time; they just need to go to the
online casino and play their games.
