April 12, 2009 Online Casino News:
Conservatives Give Online
Casino Gambling Bad Rap
According to a recent report, United
Kingdom Conservatives have been
inflating numbers making it look like
there was a real problem with online
casino gambling in their country, when
really there isn’t. The Gambling
Commission has been asserting that with
the advent of online casino gambling
that the numbers of those that had a
problem with gambling were “dramatically
rising.” However, the Department of
Culture has a completely different take
on it.
The Department of Culture says that they
have used actual research to come up
with their numbers, and they say that
they have very different results because
of that. They said that the claims that
the commission has been raising are
“rubbish” and are not backed by any
actual evidence. This of course makes
many wonder who is telling the truth.
Conservatives said that there was an
estimated 7.4% of online casino patrons
that had developed compulsive gambling.
But the official government study shows
it as only 0.6% of the online casino
gambling population. This is a huge
difference of opinion which is why the
Department of Culture is stressing that
theirs are based on actual facts, not an
“arbitrary estimate.”
They said that the number of people who
have developed online casino gambling
problems has not risen since 1997. They
say that the conservatives are trying to
alarm residents and warn them against
the online casino industry because they
have an ulterior motive. They say that
they have been trying to block online
casino advertising and are trying to use
these numbers to support that attempt.
Instead, it has backfired on them as the
real numbers have come out making online
casino gambling look much less
hazardous.
