78-Year Old Great-Grandmother Hits $4.1 Million Jackpot at the Venetian
Thursday, February 4th, 2010One January 10, 2010, a 78-year-old retired physical education and dance teacher received quite the shock while visiting Las Vegas with her daughter. The woman, who did not give her name, was able to celebrate her birthday three days early by winning a $4,141,909 MegaJackpot playing Wheel of Fortune Special Edition pennies at the Venetian Resort Casino in Las Vegas, NV. She said that previously, the largest payout she’d ever won at on a slot machine was $600.
“My actual birthday is January 13th. When we get home to Oswego, New York, then we’ll have a big party. This is hard to believe. In fact, I first thought I had won $4,000 until a casino host told me I had won the jackpot.” said the lucky lady. The woman was excstatic at the win because she’s been an avid player for years. That’s the thing about the big jackpots– so many people spend years playing a particular game or at a specific casino with only moderate wins to show for it. Then, suddenly, they walk away with a big win after getting lucky. It’s a great way to close out a day of gambling.
More and more casinos are creating super special bonuses for their loyal players. If you are a gamer, be sure to check out some of the newest promotions in Las Vegas. The city’s casinos are working hard to bring customers back. Since the recession almost every casino has suffered huge losses. The Las Vegas economy overall is depressed and casinos operators are looking for ways to spur players back into gambling. The jackpot above was great news and created a lot of buzz for area gaming facilities.
The fortunate winner had been playing the winning penny machine earlier in the evening, but left to meet her daughter for dinner. She later returned to the same machine and reportedly played about $40 before hitting the multi-million jackpot.
When asked what she was going to do with her winnings, she said, “I’m going to pay off my car and then talk about the rest of the winnings with my five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.”
