General Rules for Gambling Online

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

The world of gambling is growing and more people are joining online casinos for their gaming needs. Now more than ever, gamblers are opting to log in to casinos online rather than travel to land based casinos. It is a sign of where the market is going and how things are changing quickly. If you love to wager, then you most likely have at least been tempted to get to the online world and try a few casinos out. Most likely once you start to wager online, you are going to love it. The number one benefit of course is the convenience of wagering from the privacy of your own home. Plus there is no waiting in lines or struggling with other patrons to get to your best and favorite games. Though the market is growing consistently, there are some cautions. If you are going to wager online, then you need to keep general rules to protect yourself. First of all, be sure that you set a bankroll limit just like you would if you were going to a land based casino. In the world of online gambling it is even easier to keep on depositing money to your account. Remember that when you are gaming online all you have to do is click a few buttons and you can keep increasing your account. This is exciting, but it also can damage your bank account.

Second, when you are wagering online make sure that you look for the best deals. Just like when you get a special from a land based casino you go there, so the same should happen with online gaming. The best thing to do is to sign up for a few big-name casinos’ newsletters. This is the way to get information on their specials delivered directly to your inbox. You won’t miss any promotions or specials this way and won’t have to keep on searching around the internet for the biggest bonuses. Not that that isn’t valuable though! Be sure that at some point of the month you always do a search for the “best deals online” and find some at new casinos. You want to see if they could help you to win more and have more gaming fun. It is great fun to wager online, but be sure to take a few steps to protect yourself and make your gaming more fun.

Gambling Addicts May Have Problem Avoiding Gambling

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

The US is still holding off on legalizing online gambling due to debates over the issue. Both sides are armed with their own arguments about it and most likely it is going to take a few more months at minimum for gamers to be able to play in the US. That isn’t stopping some residents though. A new study is showing that college-aged students are using online gambling websites more and more. It could be the prevalence of gambling in the market or the shows that romanticize the gambling tables. We have all seen the stories of a down-and-out hero who needs cash. All he has left in his pocket is $500, but needs $10,000 to get in on the big poker game. He practices, and works hard for the rest of the money. Once he gets it, he enters the poker tournament and, voila—he ends up winning! Sure it sounds good, but how often does that really happen? Despite the actual fruition of the dream, college students are still willing to take their own chances. They are moving to wager in record numbers.

One of the problems with gambling though is that when someone prone to addictions starts playing, he or she may not be able to stop. They could end up losing too much. An addict can’t say no to an activity and that could spell trouble for gamers—especially inexperienced and young gamers. The government is being cautioned by the study’s owners. They are saying that the best thing to do right now is to find some legislation that can protect young people from future problems with gambling. This is a critical time for gaming companies because they are voracious—they are more than welcoming to the new and young market that college students are providing. Without the proper regulation, it could put more young people in danger of addictions, bankruptcy and stress. Hopefully this will open the door for more young people to enjoy gambling but in a protective bubble. The government has to write enough laws to protect people and that includes the college-level consumer who doesn’t yet have the experience with managing funds.

Internet Gaming Getting Safer

Friday, October 8th, 2010

If you have ever worried about the security of an online casino, then you are not alone. A lot of people have been scammed on the internet. Let’s face it, by far the online world is anonymous. People can set up websites out of the country, get them up and running, solicit customers and then disappear all within a matter of weeks. If the company is set up overseas, it is almost impossible to track it if something goes wrong. In the earlier days of the internet this wasn’t uncommon. Scammers decided to use the internet for their own personal gain and quickly made a big haul at other people’s expense and then disappeared. The internet world was still young, but so was the investigation of internet business so things weren’t pretty. If people were scammed, there were few options to finding the culprits much less stopping them.

The good news though is that few casinos online today want to take the risk. If they go through the trouble of setting up a website, loading games and working with an internet interface processor, they want to recoup the money and then some. Sure they could scam people and then disappear with a few thousand dollars, but why do that when they could provide an actual service and make millions every month? It’s a no-brainer. Online operators are well aware of how lucrative online gaming is and how it is projected to grow in coming months—especially as more states are looking at the rules for gambling. They know that there soon may be another few million people who want to wager their money and casinos want to be ready to take advantage of it. If you have ever had a hesitation to getting online to wager, then consider the many choices now. Do some research on them, make sure they have a third-party certification, but then rest assured that most likely if they have secure servers and over 500,000 members, they should be legitimate. This can considerably increase your gambling fun if you find a great online casino to participate in. Think about being able to wager from the privacy of your own home—you can’t beat that convenience.

Online Security Getting Better

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

If you have ever wondered about online security, know that in today’s world it’s getting harder and harder to scam people. When the internet first began no one knew where it would go. People purchased things with little knowledge about “SSL” or “encryption” or “security.” They didn’t yet know that you could lose everything in a bank account without protection. Now gaming companies are wise to tactics used by thieves and are moving to protect their gamers. In the world of online casinos there are two companies that secure information: VeriSign and Thawte. Thawte is a division of VeriSign but it stands alone in business model. The company works to provide SSL certificates to websites. An SSL certificate is a specific code that web servers employ. It protects any information that is shared via that server. This is how information is protected from hackers as it travels from one online location to another—say a customer’s computer to the gaming website’s depositing account. So far Thawte has handed out about 945,000 certificates and code signing certificates in over two-hundred different countries. The company is focused on staying ahead of the evolving security issues that plague the internet and its users. Overall it has done a great job but the operators know full well that their mission is never going to be over.

The world of technology is moving quickly. It’s a lot like organized crime was in the 20s. As police departments became aware of thieves and created ways to stop them, they created more ways to steal. The internet is going through the same type of growth right now. It is developing at a lightning-fast rate and that means from both sides. On one side you have scammers who steal information and on the other side you have companies like Thawte that are keeping up with the changes. Though criminals are giving companies a run for their money, those companies are not laying down. They are working just as hard to continue using the latest advances to bring even more security to their gaming customer’s needs. Expect even better products to be developed in coming months as gaming continues to take over the market of online interactions.

Some Countries Still Banning Online Gambling

Monday, September 13th, 2010

In today’s market more and more countries are opening up their markets to the world of online gambling. They are fully aware that the gaming community is growing exponentially and that means that millions of dollars are to be had in the market. Most governments are looking to capitalize on that by raising tax revenue on the money and creating licensng fees for gaming companies that want to work within their jurisdiction. This sounds like a great plan and has worked for various cities, states and counties on small levels. Most are now looking to expand that gaming plan to increase revenue…some legislations are not though. Israel for example is one country that is not looking to any gaming possibilities any time soon and bucking up against gaming companies that want to challenge that.

The gambling world has been banned from the country of Israel for some time now. There is a problem though. The online world is moving at such a great rate of growth that Israel leaders are worried that if laws aren’t shored up, these companies may gain access to residents. The government as a result is taking some drastic steps to block internet gambling from the market. The government is blocking ISPs that are looking to come into the country with their gambling technologies and to block residents from visiting them. Though this is a seemingly effective way of monitoring online gambling, the action comes along with some problems. Experts are saying that the bans are dangerously close to the act of “internet censorship.” In essence, allowing governments to use the gambling argument as a means of censoring people, is a slippery slope. The question is, if the government can ban gambling websites, what else can they ban? What else can they police? What rights to citizens have to demand access due to freedoms and their own personal rights to make decisions on their own? These are all questions that the Israeli government and other legislative bodies have to consider before using such strong tools like banning internet ISPs to stop various activities. Though there is room for debate in other areas though, the Israeli government has made it relatively clear that there is no room for debate…right now.

Other Internet sites that offer casino type games that include slot machines are FaceBook and MySpace. With both of these Internet sites you must register, but you do not need a credit card to become a member at either site, however, you can purchase more games and if you decide to do that then your personal credit card information is needed. Once you join FaceBook and or MySpace, you can enjoy the games the offer earn points that can be traded in for prizes and site applications. There are other websites available with games and some that are focused on the slots alone, and again you do not need a credit card to play, but a credit card to either purchase more games, game chances and or to win cash prizes. It really all depends on what you are looking for when it comes to gaming online. If you just want to have a few hours of fun, then you won’t need to invest anything. On the other hand, if you are looking for a potential payout, then it’s best to do some investing. You can find plenty of online casinos that won’t cost you a lot—most come with start-up bonuses that you can truly benefit from too.

Not all gamers are looking for casino type games, and if you happen to be one of those people, GSN and FaceBook have a slew of non casino type games such as action packed games, television themed games and silly games that make no sense, but are a ton of fun to play. If you are looking for a casino type experience it is recommended you stick with the online casino websites as that is always the best choice for casino games whether it be table games, scratch offs, or the slot machines. The world of casino gambling has come far by translating into the internet. Programmers and developers are experts at building games that mirror their land-based counterparts. And you can game from the privacy of your own home! You can’t beat finding a great online website where you can play games and still have a great gaming experience.

Gaming Made Simple- Part 1

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Many people enjoy the perks of having a computer at home. Home based computer systems are used for work, school, and pleasure. The internet offers computer users with all means of entertainment from music, to videos, to games which include the online casinos. Gamblers who do not have access to off line casinos, boats and or poker rooms often times find themselves in the many casino rooms offered online. However, some people don’t necessarily seek the online casinos, but rather just seek to play casino like games. Of course many of the online casinos offer the ‘real’ deal without even leaving your desk or living room, and they also offer instant play without having to download the software or having to give up any personal information.

Many Internet sites offer games within their community and many sites are strictly games. If you enjoy playing casino type games but don’t really want or need the casino theme going on in the comforts of your own home, then all you have to do is find sites like GSN.Com where if you live in a city that allows it you can play all types of games for cash including slot machine type games as well as poker based games. However, for an example if you live in Chicago you cannot play for cash as it is not allowed or legal, but that is okay because there is another option. You can just play for fun and not cash at Gsn.Com. They have ‘free’ games, and ‘cash’ games. The games they have are associated with your all time favorite television games, but they also offer casino type games, and when you are not playing for cash you are playing for points that they call oodles. The oodles you win can be used to enter sweepstakes or to gain prizes; however, many oodles are needed to trade in for prizes such as gift cards, gas cards, and electronics and magazine subscriptions. It’s a great way to build up added bonuses and have fun with the various rewards you have access to when you are gaming online.

Part two coming next.

Harrah’s Positioning Itself for Online Gaming

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

If you have been a fan of gambling for any length of time then no doubt you have heard of Harrah’s. It’s one of the most highly recognized brands in the industry. The company itself is housed in Canada but has been a staple in the city of Las Vegas for years. The company is a leader in the land-based casino world and has spent years developing a great business model. One thing that has allowed this company to stay is that it has continued to grow with the market. For example, now that online gambling in the US is taking on a different level of deliberation, Harrah’s is positioning itself to be ready for the move to online gambling legalization. It was last month that the company announced that along with GameSys Group,it would be offering online gaming and online bingo at the Caesar’s Bingo website. You will also be able to play slots, blackjack and roulette at the website.

Harrah’s has proven its expertise and knowledge about the gambling industry via its successful ventures in the US like Caesars Palace. The company has built a huge market share of the field and will continue as the market expands. Now that online gambling in the US is almost a reality, gambling will continue to grow. Harrah’s is working with its own commission board in the state of Nevada to build up gambling rules from the ground up. The company knows that to fully take advantage of the online gambling market, it has to work hard now to build a strong foundation. They know that with a thorough understanding of the market, they can more effortlessly into the world of online gambling. Currently, the state is one of the first in line for licensing once online casino operations are possible in the US. Like most other companies, Harrah’s is just waiting for the US laws to be adopted that will regulate and legalize online gambling. Harrah’s has to wait for the rules to change but in the mean time the company is not just waiting. Caesar’s Bingo is the latest company to be introduced by Harrah’s. It is being auditioned in the UK though to see how well it does. If all goes well, it will then be brought to the states once the regulations allow.

Another Casino in Nevada Shuts its Doors

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

In olden days the Cal Neva Lodge was one of the most popular handouts for the Rat Pack. Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and many others frequented the location, wanting to take a chance at the gambling hot-spot. Now things are changing. It seems that the recession got to even this landmark location and it closed down last Wednesday. The resort is owned by Canyon Capital Realty Advisors and the company announced that it would be closing the casino to look for a new third-party operator to handle the casino. In essence, what Canyon Capital did was cut all ties with Luna Gaming Tahoe.

The closing of Cal Neva Lodge is just another example of how problems have arisen due to the recession of 2008/2009. Casinos that once were strong and buzzing with excitement are now on the decline. Their patronage is slowing down considerably and making it difficult for the facilities to manage. Most problems began when the unemployment rate began to skyrocket. It caused potential and annual visitors to stop their trips to Las Vegas. Most people were forced to completely cut out their discretionary spending, in an effort to cover necessary bills.  A record number of two-income families, evolved into single- or no- income households. This is where much of the problems for Las Vegas began. Add to the issue the lowered home values and bursting credit bubble, and you have a recipe for financial disaster.

In the past year, things have not gotten much better. Operators are hopeful, but they know that the road to recovery for the city will be hard. The plan is to create specials and bonuses that attract more customers into the gambling hotspot. Many industry insiders believe that the market is turning around, but much slower than anticipated or hoped. It will take months, maybe years for Las Vegas to return to its old state of operations. Until then more casinos like the Cal Neva Lodge may be lost. It is a history of tradition that is being eliminated, but the economy is unforgiving. Only time will tell how long it will take to change things around and bring Las Vegas back to its old days of glory.

Gambling In the Hands of Voters in Maine

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Yesterday the House in Maine decided to contemplate gambling within the state. The Oxford Casino bill was scheduled to go to the voting floor this November, thus allowing people to make a decision on the issue. Now, there is a long list of bills looking to be brought to the ballot later this year and it promises to offer voters a bigger choice as to what they want to happen with the issue of gambling within the state of Maine.

Many states in the US are in the midst of debates over gambling. Legislators are pushing hard for legalization due to the overwhelming amount of tax-revenue dollars available. They know that the recession created huge budgets and deficits to overcome. With deficits in the millions, it is hard to find money-generating activities that are going to help overcome and bring in the huge dollars needed. Gambling is a hopeful alternative to future cut-backs in spending and financial disaster.

The Passamaquoddy Tribe and Hollywood Slots are two entities that are happy about the vote that took place. It means that the decision is in the hands of the people and that’s a good thing. To both operators, it means that they will have adequate time to petition and advertise the many virtues of allowing gambling into the state. Just like other US states are voicing their support of gambling legalization and regulation, so Maine is joining in the campaign. If the vote is to be put off until November, residents of the state can expect a lot of promotion in the form of TV ads, print ads, flyers and radio spots. The main goal will be to showcase how gambling would bring in a wide range of job opportunities. This is a chord that hits a note with many of the voting public due to the soaring unemployment rate. If various entities that want gambling can focus on the good it will bring to the state and to the local market, then they have a shot at a positive vote in November of this year. There are still those who oppose gambling, but the advantage of more tax-revenue dollars and employment may be too big a point for them to argue against.
