Australia Making Push to Expand Gambling

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

One thing that is happening at an exponential rate these days is a push for better gambling—not only gaming, but facilities and bonuses. The entire business model of gambling is reaching new heights as more and more people continue to move in on the market. Because of its popularity there is steep competition with gamers today—companies know this. They know that to remain competitive they have to push the boundaries of what they are offering gamers. Because the internet is so popular and used by billions of people, they know full well what to demand from an online merchant. For this reason they are highly selective when it comes to online gambling companies. One of the biggest draws are companies that have premiere customer service, security and games. These are considered to be integral to any online gaming company if they want success in the market.

Australia is one of those countries that is looking to capitalize on the gaming world. The country is working with various laws to protect gamers, but to also open up the market to gambling. The country has a casino called the Adelaide Casino that is scheduled to get an AUS $250 million reconstruction in coming months. It’s taking on the life of something like Las Vegas’ City Center. It is a huge project that is expected to bring in billions of dollars over the next few decades of operations. The Australian government is in position to take advantage of the money coming in due to hefty regulations on licensing companies in the country and also tax revenue dollars. Their income structure is two-fold and they are hoping that this is going to push them to an even greater return on their investment. It is a large project, but if it pushes the casino to the heights of popularity that developers are hoping, it may be the best thing for the Australian economy. Adelaide Casino is a huge tourist draw and bringing this much expansion to it will only make it that much more popular and lucrative. There are still a few hurdles to get over, but most likely developers will get through them and open the casino to rave reviews.

Betfair Moving in on UK Market

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

The UK is seeing its own hefty push towards online gambling these days. The fight is not unique though. All over the world there are heavy debates on the issue. Most legislators are swaying towards legalizing gambling because of the huge revenue potential attached if the issue is sorted out the right way. Now the UK is joining in on the fun. Betfair.com is an online gaming group looking to bring gambling into the UK and leaders are excited that the UK is known to have more lax rules regarding the pastime. Betfair.com and its officials just announced that they have a new advertising campaign that is set to start within the country soon. It is one of the most aggressive and complete advertising campaigns that online betting has seen and that is what is making news. Though other gambling companies have made the rounds within the country, they haven’t gone to the lengths that Betfair.com is planning.

Starting this coming week the advertising campaign will begin and run throughout the UK. It is scheduled to include television, radio, billboard and print programs. The major push will be to bring gambling into the country but also to spur new gamers to venture into the world of online gambling. There are millions of UK-based customers who go to land-based casinos, but the market of online gambling is still taking hold. Part of the power of this campaign is building on the expertise of Betfair.com. This of course is a website that has become premiere in the world of online gambling. It is known for creating great games that have good payouts. Plus, the amount of bets that it takes are consistently expanding and almost any event in the market is going to be translated into a betting game. You can log in and wager on hundreds of different scenarios in the world today. Expect to see the company come out with various other methods of advertising as the year progresses. They have already hinted towards using social media as a means of spreading the word of online gambling and how it is growing in the UK.

Playtech Waiting in the Wings as Gambling Expands

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

The world of gambling in the US is changing drastically. It seems as if one state after another is going through debates over gambling and its legalization. Since the recession states were left with huge deficits to manage and few options for finding money generating activities that can carry their budgets for coming fiscal years. It is taking a lot for them to find other ways of funding, but gambling seems to be the most viable. It is one of the only markets that has the ability to bring in millions of tax revenue dollars to states. For this reason many gaming companies are waiting with bated breath for the changes in legislation. They want the states to open the door to legalized gambling because that means they have access to the millions of dollars collected via gambling in any given month.

Playtech is a leader in the world of gambling and provides software to some of the top online casinos in the world. It is ready to enter the US market and its operators are waiting patiently for the US to continue to change its laws. Once it legalizes online gambling, Playtech is one of the gambling giants ready to pounce. It already has a great gaming reputation in other markets, and now it is ready to capitalize on the millions of gamblers in the states. Playtech officials believe that the US will be opening its doors to gambling soon and they are predicting that Atlantic City and Las Vegas are the main areas where gambling online will initially dominate. For this reason they want to set themselves up to make the change as quickly as possible once gambling laws are passed. It was back in 2006 when online gambling was banned in the states that Playtech moved out of the market and focused on other areas of the world. The UIGEA was what pushed them out but now it is about to change or be amended. Back at the time of the UIGEA institution, Playtech was one of the first companies to pull out of the US and now it wants to be one of the first to reenter when the time is right.

St. Louis Legislators Excited over Gambling’s Performance

Monday, July 12th, 2010

If you are thinking of a gambling Mecca in the US, what immediately comes to mind? Las Vegas? Atlantic City? St. Louis, Missouri? While St. Louis may not be the first thing to come to mind, the state’s officials are doing a lot to change that. First of all, Missouri is in the same state of financial disarray that is befalling most other states. Since the recession, states are scrambling to find new ways of generating much needed funds. Gambling is proving to be a very attractive option partly because it is growing in popularity and partially because of the huge money potentially available. It is the only activity that can bring in the billions needed to hope to balance state budgets. There are few other options when it comes to bringing in the huge tax-revenue dollars. There are some other possibilities, but none can bring in the money needed to turn around the economy.

St. Louis Missouri is jus t like other US cities. This past April revenue for the state made a spike to just over $90 million. That is a huge jump of 7% since last year this same time. The increase can partially be attributed to the new River City casino that was built. It made waves in the market because of its luxury accommodations and state-of-the-art gaming floor. It took some time to get together, but now the city is thankful it went through the trouble.

Up until 2008 St. Louis had six casinos in the area and now thanks to the seventh, they are seeing a huge growth in gambling revenue. Missouri gaming regulators are already seeking a new developer to step in and take over their one existing, and vacant, gaming license. So far over twelve developers are looking to bid for that one last license. The last casino brought in a huge amount of revenue and setting up yet another one may do the same. Missouri is hoping they can repeat history with this second casino and make it the best one in the market yet. It will take time to see how it performs, but overall it should still bring in a huge amount of money for operators.

IN Makes Move to Expand Gambling

Monday, December 28th, 2009

In Indiana gambling laws state that casinos can only operate on riverboats. It’s a law that has served the state well over the years. Patrons from the state and neighboring states travel to visit the riverboats and enjoy gambling in a novel way. There are changes to the state laws coming though. Lawmakers are looking to discuss the possibility of changing the state law tying gambling and riverboats together. They are now looking to allow a new land-based casino to be built in downtown South Bend.

There are several groups pushing for the move to build the new casino. They are citing its possibility of reinvigorating the economy and bringing millions into the state’s budgets. Another repercussion of the move would be to create jobs for the local economy. Many people are unemployed in the state and this is one of the biggest advantages legislators are advertising and promoting. Gaming analyst Steve Schwartz said, “Right now, there are several different groups who want to bring land-based casinos to Indiana. If the state laws change, these groups had better move quickly or they are going to lose out on licensing.”

Despite a strong push for the move, like with other states there is an opposing side that sees the new land-based casino as a bad move. One of their biggest arguments is that South Bend is a financially risky area for a casino. Analysts are citing that there are more financially sound areas of the state where it would make more fiscal sense to build in.

At this time Indiana has eleven riverboat casinos but more than a few are citing bad location as their number one problem. Some are even petitioning the state to allow them to relocate to inland areas. Though legislators have thus far denied the requests, they still are working to build up their case for the moves. Another issue that is weighing heavily on the state is building a land-based casino that could potentially infringe on the daily routines of locals. Many are worried that having a land-based casino in the area would congest roads, bring in crime and bring in more need for addiction services.

Nevada’s Carson Nugget Expanding Quickly

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Carson Nugget in Nevada is appealing to the Board of Supervisors requesting approval on an aggressive development situated behind the main street casino. The new development would include a wide variety of additional business entities within the 8-acre area.  They would include a state-of-the-art library, in-town lofts, plaza, transit center, IMAX theater, retail businesses and office space. The wide variety of businesses is what Carson Nugget is focusing on while it requests for Board approval and support.  It is citing the creation of numerous jobs for the area and the ability to bring tourist and local dollars into the huge conglomerate of business entities.

The mission of the Carson Nugget is to not only revamp the area but to focus on the youth in the area. It is citing the 50% ownership of the development project will be owned by the Hop and Mae Adams Trust. The trusts vision is to support youth and growth in young people in the area. A top-notch knowledge and discovery library integrated within a center of working, living, learning and recreation certainly gives youth a chance not to just learn a skill, but then to apply what they learn to an area of work in the city. It creates the ability to create life-long residents who have skills to better the city.  This daring idea starts a route to economic opportunity rooted in primary jobs — that is those kinds of jobs not dependent on tourism or the economy, with all its ups and downs.

The Nugget project is very proactive and solution oriented. Rather than waiting for a bailout, with the commitment and support of a private partner, Carson City has an opportunity to create its own solution to market health that reaches beyond a one-time stimulus. The project could serve as an economic impetus that change the city’s success potential. Supervisor and Redevelopment Authority Chairwoman Robin Williamson stated, “Carson City residents know what they want in terms of future development. We’ve ask them and they’ve told us through vigorous public process. It is now time to deliver on expectations. This is putting plans into action. As a mother of three young adults, two at UNR and one still in high school, my husband and I do worry about what the chances are that they will be able to make their way in our native Silver State. I’m not alone in the concern and many relish the thought of generations being able to add to the rich history that makes us Nevadans. I know home is where the heart is, but for us home means Nevada.”
