Quality of Life Fights Against Gambling
Quality of Life is another group taking aim at legalizing gambling. The organization is working within the state of Missouri and hoping to thwart the advancement of gambling. Missouri is another state that is debating the issue out. There is a common belief that bringing gambling to the state will inevitably increase jobs and revenue. With the post-recessionary market still upon us, it is hard to turn down the changes that gambling could bring. Many legislators are pushing for gambling to be brought into the market quickly. True recovery is going to depend on bringing in more money for jurisdictions to manage budgets and deficits with. Quality of Life, however does not see things this way. In fact, the organization sees things quite the opposite.
Quality of Life is a Missouri-based initiative that is pushing for legislators and voters to look at the downside of gambling. Their tag line is “the gambling industry is built on misery.” They use this tagline because the committee believes that to make gambling a success in the market, people are going to have to lose millions. To build a new casino anywhere, organizers realize that it takes a huge investment from development companies. This money of course comes from the people involved, but then it takes another toll on residents in the area. Not only will casinos necessitate a greater police force, but it also will call for more resources for addictions, road repairs and other changes. The group is planning a major push into the social market and advertising world. They hope to educate people on what they believe to be the crux of the gambling issue. Without some serious focus on what will happen when and if gambling is legalized, the Quality of Life committee believes that people may be overcome by the promise of jobs and revenue. They may not see the full picture as the committee sees it. So far their greatest opposition is coming in the form of “Yes for Gaming.” This is a equally passionate side of the coin and they are making a serious push for gambling to increase within the state.
