Online Gaming in the US- Part 1

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

If you live in the US and want to wager, then get ready for a search. The laws of gambling are changing by the week in the states and that means anyone wanting to wager needs to be careful. Often times laws on the state, local and federal levels are not in sync. If you want to wager online, your best bet is to carefully check your jurisdiction. The US laws on gambling are all over the place. Everyone is scrambling to get a piece of the gambling pie because of the huge potential payout of the game. Consider that gambling is a $4 billion business and that growth is set to increase another $3 billion within the next four years. That means that legislators are going to do all they can to bring gambling to their areas. It means millions in tax revenue dollars and license fees.

If you are a gamer in the US then you have some resources available to you. Because online gambling laws are still up in the air, you have to find casinos that accept US customers. Here are some casinos that welcome US gamers and build special promotion to keep on bringing them in:

• Go Casino. This is a casino that already has a great reputation for exceptional gaming. The casino has a host of games for you to enjoy. You won’t be disappointed with the gaming here and the customer service is top notch. If you get to the casino now you can take advantage of its $20,000 bonus on your first twenty deposits. The catch of course is that you have to be prepared to stick around for twenty deposits, but the games are varied enough that this should not be too much of a problem.
• VIP Slots Casino. This is another casino that offers a great bonus of 100% up to $777. If you have the cash to deposit, you can take advantage of it easily. The games here are premiere and you have tons of gambling options. This casino focuses mostly on slots, but you still can find other games to enjoy here. If you love slots gaming though, this is definitely the casino for you to try.

More Poker Professionals Enter Market

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Recall when it was ridiculous to play poker for a living? There were days when anyone who told you they played poker to pay the bills was laughed at. “Get a real job!” people told them. A few decades ago no doubt that is what anyone who made the announcement received—ridicule and laughter. Now things are much different. In today’s market, more and more gamers are making gambling a legitimate career choice. Namely it is the high-stakes poker players who are coming into the market as true professionals. Some Ivy-league schools are even offering “poker” as a course for students to take. The reasoning is that it offers skills that can be “learned and taught” and those skills can be translated into the business market. How realistic is it to use poker skill for business? According to some deans, it is pretty common!

Part of the rise in gambling as a profession is the WSOP, or World Series of Poker. This is a high-profile tournament that hands out millions of dollars to winners. It is broadcast live via ESPN and ESPN2. It has huge corporate sponsorship and a huge marketing budget. The tournament started humbly enough with only six players. Now, over thirty years later it has thousands of players vying for the cash payouts of the games and the coveted WSOP bracelet. It is the payouts though that are pushing more and more young hopefuls into the game of poker as a profession. Consider that if you win one game in the WSOP you could be walking away with well over a million dollars. Do that once a year and then play a few other tournaments and you will be find financially. This is becoming more and more popular with young gamers who see the huge payouts and want in. Expect the market to expand and more professional players to come into the gaming market. The game is welcoming millions of new players every year and that is driving its popularity up that much quicker. If you love poker, then get ready for the huge growth that is surely to continue coming.

The Mental Aspect of Poker Gaming

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

If you have ever played in a top-dollar poker tournament then you know how much heated arguing can mean to the game. Not literally arguing, but the whole thing is a test of wills. You want to have a good strategy, but anyone who totally discounts the mental aspect of the game, is missing something. It’s no secret that if you watch a top dollar tournament you are going to see players face off against each other with bluffs. The bluff of course is when a player pretends to have a hand of a certain value, when he or she doesn’t. If the table falls for it and goes all in, then end up falling for the bluff and losing their cash. In the world of poker bluffing is a highly coveted skill. Gamers test their own bluffing skills and those of the experts all the time. It’s a great tool to have.

The best thing about poker gambling is that it can be taught and learned. Plus the game itself is made up of a healthy combination of skill and luck. Sure luck is a huge part—it is a gambling game after all, but there are still things you can do to increase your chances of a win. In the end, if you know what you are doing that can take you far in any poker game or tournament. If you are looking to learn the bluff, all you have to do is watch ESPN or late night poker. These are the shows where gamers join together to play nightly. It’s a great bonus for newer players because you can see how professionals manage their hands. They consistently change it up and try to overcome other players. It isn’t just their cards that dictate a win or not. Sure the cards help, but a player with a bad hand can still come out on top if he or she has enough experience to know how to bluff. The bluff is a risky move for anyone, much less a new player, but if you practice it may be one of the most important tools in your arsenal. Do some practicing with it, and then test it out in the next smaller-wager game you are in. You could find that it helps you to make waves on the poker circuit.

Gambling Legalization in the States

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

If you are wondering where the world of gambling legalization is, then you have come to the right place. Remember that laws are changing quickly. One month gambling may be illegal and the next, it may be legal at certain locations throughout a state, or at certain locations within a specific county. It’s hard to keep up with the changes, but the good news is that the internet allows gamers to search for pertinent information regarding gambling. You can find out right away if gambling is allowed in your area and what the condition of the laws is if you do a simple search. If you are wondering which states have restrictions, here they are: Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin. If you are in these states, you may want to do a search before you log into an online casino. The laws here are changing on what seems to be a daily basis so keeping up is going to be a task for anyone who wants to wager online.

On the other hand, if you are wondering what states have no restrictions, then here is the list: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming. These are the states that don’t have restrictions. The problem though is that every state is debating the issue on some level. Make sure you continue to check that gambling is legal in your area. It’s hard to keep up. And, the many organizations making a push from both sides are making the issue that much more critical to the market. Remember that there are millions of dollars at stake for any state that is not sure what it wants to do with gambling these days. Those are millions that could help balance budgets, manage the deficits and fund huge public works programs in the future.

These are just three casinos that take US players. There are more, but these are the ones making the biggest splash in the market. If you love gambling and are in the US, expect more and more companies to continue accepting US gamers. The laws are still up in the air, but they are a priority on the legislators’ tables.

Casinos that take US Players- Part 1

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

There are still some US gamers who are worried where to go when trying to find a casino. The rules are sketchy now because of the huge amount of debates going on in the market of gambling. The US is in the midst of huge changes. One side wants gambling and the other doesn’t. The problem is that they both have equally poignant reasons why they should be right. Plus it is a passionate issue that is striking a chord with gamers everywhere. Possibly the biggest argument is that gamers in the US have made it clear that they are going to wager. When the UIGEA of 2006 banned internet gambling, people didn’t stop; they merely moved their online gambling to offshore companies. They didn’t stop gambling though. It was a harsh lesson for US legislators as they saw billions of US gambling dollars moving to offshore companies. As a result the US is now embroiled in this debate. They don’t want to continue losing money, but they also want to avoid the problems that can occur with legalized gambling available to residents.

If you are a US player and looking for a good online casino, first you need to check with your jurisdiction. There are many laws out there and states, cities and counties don’t always agree. You could find that your county doesn’t allow gambling but your city does. Or, your city could allow gambling but only at approved locations that have licenses and permits to operate the gaming floor. You never know and rules are changing on a weekly basis so be sure to protect yourself from doing something illegal. Assuming you checked and you are legally allowed to gamble in your area, then you have some good options. Here are some of the best for US gambling.
• Grand Vegas Casino. This is a top notch casino that just opened earlier this year. Don’t let its newness fool you though. It may be new but it has taken lessons from what has already happened in the market. The company has a huge following already and is offering a good range of bonuses for any new US gamer to take advantage of. It has premiere games and a long list of selections so you won’t easily get bored here.

Part two coming next.

Protecting Yourself at an Online Casino

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

If you have to been gambling online long, you may not know what a fight it was to get casinos to draw up transparent and fair payout laws. Not every casino, that is. Some are fine…the problem was in the batch of good casinos there were a number of bad ones that set up shop for the purpose of stealing money and identities from unknowing gamers. Let’s go back ten years: there were a few gaming companies that were set up crudely like “real” casinos. They asked for the pertinent and normal information—your name, address, funding account, social security number and phone number. You signed up at the casino and started gaming. Lucky you hit the BIG jackpot! You were excited naturally and couldn’t wait to get paid out. Then you waited…and waited…and waited. After a day you emailed the customer service department (back in these days not all companies online had a toll-free number for direct contact). That email went unanswered. It was a task to get any answer, or any answer that satisfied you. The bottom line was: where is my money? So where was your money? Well it turns out a number of companies set up to scam you. They got your personal information, let you wager a few times and then closed up shop when you spent a few hundred dollars winning their big jackpot game. You were left a few dollars poorer and your personal information was out there for anyone to use. Who knows where it ended up?

This wasn’t that uncommon a few years back. Now things are much more regulated and that is making gambling much more secure, but in olden days it wasn’t like that. Anyone who is gaming now should do the needed checks of the casino you want to play at. It is much better in the market these days, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t have some problems. Always be careful and vigilant—especially when you are sharing your personal information. The world of online gambling has gotten wildly better than it was in former years, but it is still up to you to protect yourself and your information.

Washington Fighting Gambling Issue

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Washington is another state that is fighting the gambling issue. State legislators created a ban on internet gambling back in 2006. It followed along with the UIGEA and made the practice illegal but there were some people who believed that it was the wrong decision. Namely, Lee Rousso, a Renton-area lawyer and poker player, petitioned for a change. He filed a lawsuit that sought to change the ban on internet gambling. The issue has gotten as high at the Supreme Court in Washington and not the court handed down some bad news for Rousso. The court ruled that the legislators did not violate the constitution when they banned internet gambling. They merely were exercising a right that they already have. Rousso’s argument was built on one particular clause regarding commerce in the Constitution. Now that his argument has been denied, the market will have to see what his next legal move is, if any.

Although this was the latest decision, Rousso and his supporters say that they will continue to push it to the federal level. The interesting thing is that this is where the hefty debates are. The US government is fighting for legalizing versus not legalizing gambling. it is taking center stage because of how lucrative it is as a market and how many people are gaming at offshore companies. That money of course is quickly leaving the market and going to other countries, benefiting their markets rather than the US market. Legislators are trying to changes this, but there are heavy fights over the issue. There is still a strong anti-gambling group that is pushing for rules based on the difficulties legalizing gambling will inevitably bring to the market. They believe that if the US legalizes gambling they will bring in crime, corruption and addiction in mass numbers. Without the proper safeguards or program funding to handle these problems, the US will be setting itself up for more problems. Though prohibition is still alive in the US, there is a push for legalizing gambling. The hefty dollar potential of legalizing gambling could be what turns the whole market around.
