Slots Gaming Still Big Business for Casinos

New research is showing that slots are still making waves in the gambling market. Since the recession many land-based casinos have suffered greatly. Let’s face it- if people don’t have revenue, how are they going to gamble? Most Americans put off gambling at land-based casinos in past months. The recession taught people well that they had to do some serious cutting back to make it. The unemployment rate soared in past months and that drastically cut back on what people could and could not afford. Gambling since it is completely a hobby was cut out of millions of American budgets. This was bad news for the casinos who rely on gambling revenue to sustain themselves. With the lack of revenue, they were hard-pressed to create new promotions and specials that brought in the numbers of customers needed to turn their finances around.

One of the most interesting things that came to light via research casinos were doing was just how lucrative slots gaming is. Most casino operators believed misguidedly that the high-roller tables were what brought in the biggest dollars. That is true…but not all inclusive. What the casinos found out was that they may have a surge in profit around a great poker tournament here and there, but the numbers weren’t consistent. For example, a good poker tournament held in December brought in $150,000, but the following month that revenue was down to just $50,000. On the other hand slots gaming brought in a consistent average of $122,000 over the same two months. The research showed that though slots gambling didn’t have a sudden surge in revenue, it was consistent and that made it the number one money-maker for casinos in Las Vegas. In fact, they even said that slots gambling brought in 60% of the overall revenue they saw in past years.

This was truly news to most casinos and industry insiders but made sense when investigated. People are leery of wagering $500 in a poker tournament that they have a slim shot of winning. On the other hand, people will wager a consistent $10 for a slots game. When it comes to having fun wagering on a slot machine the “$10″ wager amount just isn’t as intimidating at the buy-in. Plus with slots gambling, you get what you pay for. Most likely you are going to have a great time playing due to the quality of games.
