If the Parlay system is intriguing, there are always other systems to try. For example, there is the D’Alembert system. D’Alembert is a simple betting system that is based on the Martingale with a few slight moderations. When using the D’Alembert blackjack betting system, the player will raise his bet one unit after he loses and will lower the bet by one unit if he wins. The system was named after French mathematician Jean le Rond D’Alembert, who was a physicist and philosopher from the 18th century. One of his theories based on the Law of Equilibrium claims a long-term balance of failures and successes over the course of a raw of events. Thus, according to the theory, everyone has a higher likelihood of a win after he loses and a higher likelihood of a loss after he wins. The one catch with this system is that it works over the “long-term.”
The D’Alembert’s is a very popular progressive betting system, much like the “Pyramid System.” It is most frequently used in roulette and baccarat, but it is also applied for blackjack. There is a Contra-D’Alembert betting system, the positive variant of the D’Alembert. When used properly this system claims to raise the bet by one unit after every loss, and to lower the bet by one unit after every win. The D’Alembert system is a risky progressive betting system because it continues to increase a wager despite a loss. That can be contradictory to intuition. This system is one in which the player must play with caution but on the positive side, it isn’t as risky at the Martingale system where players double the bet instead of just increasing it.
Here is how this system works. If playing blackjack at a table with a $5 minimum bet, then the player starts with a $5 wager. If the player loses, their next bet will be $10, or doubled units. If the player wins, the bet would stay at $5. If he or she looses their second hand their bet will be $15. If this hand wins, the bet is $10, so its lowered by one unit, and not to return to the original bet.
